Amboy (/ ˈ æ m b ɔɪ /) [3] is a census-designated place (CDP) in Clark County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,838 at the 2020 census , [ 4 ] up from 1,608 at the 2010 census . It is located 33 miles northeast of Vancouver which is part of the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan area .

In 1899-1900, a railroad was built through the Mohawk Valley and a station named Marcola was established near the post office. [4] Marcola was a name made up to honor Mary Cole, the wife of the town's founder, Columbus Cole. [4] [5] In 1901, the post office name was changed to agree with the name of the station. [4]
