This is a list of notable Western films and TV series, ordered by year and decade of release.For a long-running TV series, the year is its first in production. The movie industry began with the work of Louis Le Prince in 1888.
The film begins in 1874, when John Clum arrives in Tucson, Arizona as the new Indian agent of the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. He meets with Arizona Territory Governor Safford and Army General Wade, both of whom mock the Department of the Interior's decision to change its policy toward the Apache, Wade calling them "savages".
Film historian Chris Langley has grouped From Hell to Texas with two other Henry Hathaway westerns, Nevada Smith (1966) and True Grit (1969) to form what the writer calls "Hathaway's Western revenge trilogy." [10]
The most obvious example of this is the casting of veteran film good guy Henry Fonda as the villainous Frank, but many other, more subtle reversals occur throughout the film.
