Berklee College of Music is a private music college in Boston, Massachusetts.It is the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world. Known for the study of jazz and modern American music, [6] it also offers college-level courses in a wide range of contemporary and historic styles, including rock, hip hop, reggae, salsa, heavy metal and bluegrass.

In 2015, Boston Conservatory began talks with Berklee College of Music to explore a merger of the two schools. [6] On June 1, 2016, the two schools merged under an institutional umbrella called Berklee, which now consists of Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Berklee College of Music, Berklee Online, Berklee Valencia, and Berklee NYC. Berk oversaw the growth of the modest Schillinger House music school into the Berklee College of Music, the largest independent school of music in the world.
