By the mid-1980s the vehicles were considered to be too old and too slow for recovery work and 251 BJD was stored at the Borough's museum with a view to being restored. Financial restraints prevented this action and the vehicle was sold to Clive MacDonald in 1999. Clive carried out a full restoration and re-painted the vehicle in Highway Yellow.
