The Greyhounds compete in NCAA Division II as members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). Indianapolis has been a member of the GLVC since 1978 and, as of 2022, was the only remaining charter member of the conference. The university was known as Indiana Central from its founding in 1902 until the adoption of its current name in 1986.
