The Randall House is a two-story balloon frame octagon topped with a cupola, with a one-story rectangular-shaped gable-roof wing on one side. The wing is the original house on the property, incorporated into later construction. The house measures about forty feet long by twenty-eight feet wide. A flat-roof runs around seven sides of the building.
In late 1836, Lovira and his wife's brother, John Abbey, traveled to Tuscola County and purchased land. They were some of the first European settlers in the area. In 1837 Hart constructed a log cabin and returned to New York to bring his family. In mid-1837 Lovira, his wife Hannah Emeline, and their family moved to this location in Michigan.
