Christian study centers began appearing on U.S. university campuses in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their founders and staff encouraged students, faculty, and local residents to integrate the life of the university—scholarship, science, and art—with the Christian faith, rather than to see faith and learning as competing or mutually exclusive.

Culver–Stockton College is a private Christian liberal arts college in Canton, Missouri. It was founded as Christian University in 1853 as the first institution west of the Mississippi River chartered specifically for men and women. [3] As of fall 2022, the college enrolled 999 students.
Founders say they are still in the process of acquiring a building and plan to be located in the Richland area. The school expects to operate on a four-day, weekly schedule.
It relocated to the campus that fall, changing the college's name. The first President was E.W. McMillan from 1950 to 1953, having H.L. Barber (1953-1956) and A.V. Isbell (1956-1967) succeeding him. The fourth president was Jack Evans, Sr, the first black and longest-serving president in the school's history. His tenure was from 1967 to 2017.
As a result of these combined changes, in 2001 the school, Southwestern Christian University, was granted a name change by the North Central accrediting body. An integral part of Oklahoma City history for over half a century, SCU developed beyond the parameters of just a Bible college to become a full Christian liberal arts university.
