The plentiful gulches provided coverage for the outlaws. The Enlarged Homestead Act of 1909 sparked an increase in Montana homesteaders, including in the Plentywood area. [6] Claiming this land forced some of the outlaws away. The first business in Plentywood opened in 1900, and a post office was established two years later.
The Montana Legislature established Sheridan County in 1913 from portions of Dawson and Valley Counties. It was named for American Civil War General Philip Sheridan. Redstone is an unincorporated community in Sheridan County, Montana, United States. Redstone is located on Montana Highway 5, 18 miles (29 km) west of Plentywood. The community had a post office from 1903 [3] until March 9, 2013; it still has its own ZIP code, 59257. [4] [5] It is near the confluence of the Muddy River and Eagle Creek.
Antelope School was built in 1916, the gym was finished in 1945. The school burned on October 20, 1978, students attended Plentywood school for the remainder of the year. The school graduated 522 students from 1922 to 1979 (the 1979 graduating class was graduated at Plentwyood school but consider Antelope school their Alma mater).
