The Antrim County Courthouse was designed in 1879, but construction did not begin until 1904. A new facility was constructed in 1977/78, and this building was vacant until restoration in 1990–92. In 1878, a Victorian Gothic county courthouse was constructed on Third Street in Manistee, Michigan. In 1887 two fountains were placed on the courthouse grounds, to each side and slightly in front of the courthouse itself. These fountains remained in place until 1950, when the courthouse was destroyed by fire.

[3] The county is named for the Manistee River. Manistee County is part of Northern Michigan and has a shoreline on Lake Michigan.
