The M3 model was released in 2021. [64] All-wheel drive (xDrive) is optional on the G80 M3, [65] making it the first time that a M3 has not exclusively used a rear-wheel drive layout. [66] A manual transmission is only available on rear-wheel drive models. [67] [68] BMW announced the launch of the first-ever M3 Touring in June 2022.
In June 2022, BMW revealed the first BMW M3 Touring, codenamed G81. Based on the seventh generation 3 Series, it marks the first time a BMW M Touring model reached the market. [ 27 ] The touring version of the M3 contains the same engine and interior setup as the M3 sedan, but extends the roof line to become a wagon .
At present, BMW M has offered modified versions of nearly every BMW nameplate, except for the Z1. The BMW X5 and X6 sport activity vehicles received M derivatives for the 2010 model year onwards. These are the first M vehicles with xDrive four-wheel drive and automatic transmissions, and also the first M-badged SUV models.
The BMW B58 is a turbocharged straight-six engine, which began production in 2015. [1] The B58 replaced the N55 and was launched in the F30 340i. [2]The B58 is part of BMW's modular engine family, each engine using a displacement of 500 cc (30.5 cu in) per cylinder, following the B38 and B48 engine.
In the following years, the availability of xDrive increased throughout the model range, and it is currently available on most models. The first BMW M models to use xDrive were the 2009 E70 X5M and E71 X6M models. The first non-SUV BMW M model to not be rear-wheel drive was the 2017 F90 M5, which was only available with xDrive. [17]
