The 1st Reconnaissance Squadron is a United States Air Force squadron, assigned to the 9th Operations Group, Beale Air Force Base, California. The 1st Reconnaissance Squadron is the United States military's oldest flying unit, first established on 5 March 1913.
It was organized on 1 April 1959, consisting of the 1st Reconnaissance Squadron at Silverton, part of the 41st Infantry Division. The squadron became the 1st Squadron, 82nd Cavalry, on 1 March 1963. It was redesignated to consist of the 1st Squadron in the 41st Division and Troop E in the 41st Infantry Brigade on 15 November 1965.
In July 1945, the 1st Reconnaissance Squadron "Folgore" was disbanded. [2] [3] In 1963, regiment was reformed as 1st Paratroopers Regiment and consisted of two battalions. In 1975, the regiment was disbanded and its two battalions became autonomous units.
On 1 October 2005 the unit was redesignated as the 1st Battalion (Attack Reconnaissance), 285th Aviation Regiment and on 1 May 2006 it was mobilized to conduct the AH-64D Unit Fielding Training Plan and deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VIII.
The 1st Reconnaissance Battalion (abbreviated as 1st Recon Bn) is a reconnaissance battalion in the United States Marine Corps. It is a stand-alone battalion with no parent regiment. Instead, it falls directly under the command of the 1st Marine Division. 1st Recon Bn is located at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California.
Twelve days later, on 1 April 1959, 3rd Battalion, 139th Infantry Regiment and the 130th Tank Battalion, both from the 30th Infantry Division, were re-flagged and reassigned to the regiment as the 1st Reconnaissance Squadron and the 2nd Medium Tank Battalion, respectively.
