He opened his own dealership in 1945, which became known as Holmes Tuttle, Inc. The business was a resounding success and evolved into fourteen dealerships in California and Arizona. [1] One of his first dealerships was located in Los Angeles. In the late 1940s Holmes was offered the national distributorship for a European manufacturer.
Tuttle earned a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University, and earned his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Southern California. [3] [4] Tuttle is the son of Holmes Tuttle, founder of the Southern California chain of auto dealerships and, in the 1960s and 1970s, a prominent force behind the political rise of actor Ronald Reagan.
Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Miller acquired a number of automobile dealerships in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, creating the Larry H. Miller Automotive Group. In 2007, Selling Power listed him as the tenth-largest U.S. automotive dealer, with 42 dealerships and sales of $13.5 million.
The following year, Honda established 500 motorcycle dealers and spent $150,000 on advertising in regions where it operated ($1,544,882 in 2023 dollars [5]). Honda's expansion into new U.S. markets was undertaken one region at a time over a five-year period, starting on the West Coast and moving east, creating new demand for motorcycles.
Tex Hal Earnhardt (December 9, 1930 – April 19, 2020) was an American entrepreneur born in Southern Texas. [1][2] He was the founder and CEO of Earnhardt Auto Centers, an automotive dealership company based in Chandler, Arizona. [3][4]
