Frenchman's Cove Resort, previously known as Frenchman's Cove Hotel, is a hotel located on a 42-acre (170,000 m 2) property near Port Antonio on Jamaica's northeastern shore. It is considered to be the world's first all-inclusive hotel [ 1 ] with a history indicating its role in Jamaica's tourism industry.
An all-inclusive resort is a holiday resort that generally includes, in the price of booking a stay, lodging, unlimited food and drink, alcoholic drinks, entertainment, and other recreational activities like sports or watersports. [1] They are often located in warmer regions of the world, particularly in the Mediterranean, Mexico and the Caribbean.
In 1981 Gordon "Butch" Stewart purchased an old hotel (the Bay Roc Hotel) on one of Montego Bay's largest beaches, despite having no hotel experience and opened it as Sandals Montego Bay. [7] In 1984, Sandals launched the Caribbean's first swim-up bar at its Montego Bay Resort in Jamaica. [ 8 ]
