Derwent (formerly the "Cumberland Pencil Company") is a brand of pencils, art materials, and other stationery. The business began in 1832 in Cumberland under the name of "Banks, Son & Co". [ 1 ] The company was bought by US corporation ACCO Brands (known then as Rexel) in 1980, [ 2 ] and became a brand of their product range.
The Ceylon Pencil Company (Pvt) Ltd was founded on 29 September 1959 by D. S. Madanayake, at a time when the industry was under the firm dominance of the imported products. [1] The Ceylon Pencil Company was later renamed as Atlas Axillia. Atlas Axillia currently operates two production houses in Kerawalapitiya and Peliyagoda. [2]
The Blackwing 602 is a pencil that is noted for its soft, dark graphite, unique flat square ferrule and replaceable eraser. It was manufactured by the Eberhard Faber Pencil Company from 1934 to 1988, then by the Faber-Castell pencil company from 1988 to 1994 and by Sanford from 1994 to 1998.
