The Mt. Carmel Monastery is a historic monastery located in Port Tobacco, Charles County, Maryland, United States. It comprises a two-part frame house, with the main block constructed around 1790 and restored in 1936–37. It features a two-story structure with a moderately pitched gable roof.

St. Joseph's Abbey was founded in 1950 on the former site of Alta Crest Farms, under the leadership of Dom Edmund Futterer. The monks moved there from their previous location in Cumberland, Rhode Island, which was heavily damaged by a 1950 fire. [2] Father Thomas Keating was elected abbot of the abbey in 1961.
