Don't create extra work; don't copy edit any articles to which you have recently added a {{copy edit}} tag. Don't count what you haven't copy edited. Sometimes articles or sections are unsuitable for copy editing or may not need any work. Don't count words in articles or sections that you have not copy edited.
In cases of complete inactivity, a coordinator should ask for an update on the copy editor's talk page. Write "Asked X for update on talk page" below the "Working" line on the Requests page. If no response is received within one further week, the {} template should be removed so that other editors may complete the copy edit.
