On April 7, 2009, a Philippine Air Force (PAF) Bell 412 of the 250th Presidential Airlift Wing crashed at 6,900 feet (2,100 m) above sea level in the Kabayan-Pulag pass between Mount Mangingihi and Mount Pulag in thick low cloud and fog. The pilots and their passengers, who were presidential appointees, died in the crash.

The Cordillera Central is the highest mountain range in the Philippines. It comprises about 1/6 of the whole Luzon island with a total area of 22,500 km 2 (8,700 sq mi). The highest mountain in the range, Mount Pulag, is also the highest mountain in Luzon at 2,928 metres (9,606 ft). [1]

The Halsema Highway (also known as the Benguet–Mountain Province Road, the Baguio–Bontoc Road, and the Mountain Trail [1]) is a national secondary highway in the Philippines. Situated within the Cordillera Central range in northern Luzon , it stretches from the city limit [ 2 ] of Baguio to the municipality of Bontoc . [ 3 ]
It is the second highest mountain of the Philippines at 2,941 metres (9,649 ft) above sea level, second only to Mount Apo of Davao at 2,956 m (9,698 ft) and slightly higher than Mount Pulag of Luzon, the third highest at 2,928 m (9,606 ft). [1] The mountain is regarded by the Talaandig tribe of Lantapan as a sacred place.
