The general form is gabled-ell and it is a good representation of many such working-class houses in the district. Adam Hayner was a partner in a saddlery and harness business. [10]
The DuBois Pioneer Home is a historic residence, also known as the House on the Hill, [1] in Jupiter, Florida. It was built in 1898 by Charlie Carlin for Harry and Susan DuBois. The oldest part of the house is an ell adjacent to the main house, believed to have been built between 1640 and 1653 by Joseph Loomis who came to America from England in 1638. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] Later additions to the Loomis house were made around the turn of the eighteenth century.
The new owners donated the property, house, and furnishings to the Tolland Historical Society on December 13, 1969. The house opened as a museum the following year. [2] It is open for tours on Sundays from June through September. [1] The house is reputedly haunted by the ghosts of Hessian soldiers, and of the lovers Elisha and Jemima.
