A decal (/ ˈ d iː k æ l /, US also / d ɪ ˈ k æ l /, CAN / ˈ d ɛ k əl /) [1] or transfer is a plastic, cloth, paper, or ceramic substrate that has printed on it a pattern or image that can be moved to another surface upon contact, usually with the aid of heat or water.
A shortened version of the term is used for a mass-produced commodity, art transfer, or product label, known as a "decal". Decalcomania is adapted from French décalcomanie, equivalent to décalquer, "to transfer a tracing of", plus English -mania.
