David founded The Cedar Memorial Funeral Home Company in 1965 creating the first combination operation in the state of Iowa with a funeral home on the cemetery grounds. David also oversaw the addition of over 4500 lawn crypts in the cemetery. David died in 1988 and his son, Carl John Linge became president of the cemetery association.
The cemetery was established as the West Davenport Cemetery in 1881 by stockholders who were mostly of German descent. The first burial in the cemetery was John Dibbern on August 1, 1881. [4] It acquired the name Fairmount Cemetery in 1900. A mausoleum, with 530 crypts, was constructed in 1929. [4]
