Butler County is a county located in the US state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 12,371. [1] Its county seat is Morgantown. [2] The county was formed in 1810, becoming Kentucky's 53rd county. [3] Butler County is included in the Bowling Green, Kentucky, Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Captain William Lytle (1728–97), son of Christopher Lytle, 1693–1783, from Cumberland County. Pa. served in the British army in the French and Indian War and was deeded 1,200 acres (4.9 km 2) of land for service in the Revolutionary War. He solicited settlers to follow him with the promise of land in Kentucky, then part of Virginia.
