It was formed in 1949 as the Liberal and Country Party (LCP) and simplified its name to the Liberal Party in 1965. [12]
During Eastick's leadership, the Liberal and Country League assembled at a meeting of the State Council on 22 July 1974 to rename itself to "Liberal Party of Australia (South Australian Division)". [ 9 ] [ 10 ] The renaming initiative was welcomed by federal Liberal leader and opposition leader Billy Snedden , who was present at the meeting.
