The Cathedral of Saint Jude the Apostle is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States. It is the seat of the Diocese of St. Petersburg. St. Jude Parish was founded in 1950. [3] The first church building, now Our Lady's Chapel, was completed the following year.

The new diocese included most of the Florida Gulf Coast. He appointed Auxiliary Bishop Charles B. McLaughlin of the Diocese of Raleigh as the first bishop of St. Petersburg. The pope designated the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle in St. Petersburg as its seat. [5] McLaughlin's main task was to set up the new diocese.
On December 5, 1995, Pope John Paul II appointed Lynch as the fourth bishop of St. Petersburg to fill the vacancy left by then Bishop John Favalora. Lynch was consecrated and installed at the Cathedral of Saint Jude the Apostle in St. Petersburg on January 26, 1996.
