Carter Caves State Resort Park is located in Carter County, Kentucky, United States, along Tygarts Creek. It is formed by Carter Caves, and nearby Cascade Caves, which were added to the park in 1959. [3] On December 16, 1981, 146 acres (59 ha) of the park were designated as nature preserves.

The park's namesake, Otter Creek, winds along the eastern side of the park. A scenic bend in the Ohio River, which divides Kentucky from Indiana, can be seen from northern overlooks within the park. The park is located in the Pennyrile, a geographic division of Kentucky known for its cave-forming limestones.

Referred to locally as Burnside Island, the state park offers camping, golf, and lake access via boat ramp on the south end of the island.
