MICDS (Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School) is a secular, co-educational, independent school home to more than 1,250 students ranging from grades Junior Kindergarten through 12. Its 110-acre (45 ha) campus [ 1 ] [ 2 ] is located in the St. Louis suburb of Ladue .
The award is bestowed at professional, college/university, community, and high school levels in a number of areas including composition, piano, voice, chamber music, conducting, and ensemble performance. [2] [3] The jury consists of well known performing artists in each area, with the conductor and composer David Katz serving as chief judge.
The Grammy Award for Best Classical Performance - Operatic or Choral was awarded in 1959. The equivalent award, Best Classical Performance - Opera Cast or Choral was awarded in 1960. Since 1962 the award has been divided into separate awards for opera and choral performances.
As in previous festivals the choirs toured in the US between them visiting 100 universities, colleges and schools in 23 states before coming together to sing in the Kennedy Center and the Lincoln Center.
