Puerto Jiménez is the thirteenth canton of the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] It is located in the Osa Peninsula next to the Golfo Dulce and the Pacific Ocean , it is the main gateway to the Corcovado National Park .
Cabo Matapalo is a village located at the outermost point of the Osa Peninsula in the southern Pacific coastal area of Costa Rica. The village is located in the Puntarenas Province. Cabo Matapalo is a small beach community on the Osa Peninsula that is approximately 30-40 minutes south of Puerto Jimenez, the nearest major town. [1]
Ferry boats cross the Golfo Dulce from Golfito to Puerto Jimenez, which is an access point to the Osa Peninsula and Corcovado National Park. The town lies on a narrow strip of land between the eponymous bay and a hill and consists of two parts, the town proper and shopping area to the south, and a residential area near the port.
Jiménez has an area of 286.43 km² [4] and a mean elevation of 862 metres. [2]The Turrialba River forms the northern boundary of the canton of Jiménez, with the Reventazón River and Atirro River establishing the eastern border and the Pejibaye River delineating a major portion of the canton's border on the west.
Pejivalle is known for having one of the first Environmental (or Ambiental) High Schools in Costa Rica called Colegio Ambientalista Pejivalle. Newly founded in 1999, this High School has a grand gymnasium, soccer field, air conditioned computer lab, and open air classrooms, with just under 300 students enrolled in grades 7 through 11.
The whole beach is 6 miles long, with the southern three miles of it having jungle and farmland on the east side and most of the town being located within the northernmost mile. [2] The town of Playa Zancudo contains a school, several churches, a soccer field, some Tico restaurants and bars, three sportfishing areas, and a general store.
