The Muskegon River (/ m ə ˈ s k iː ɡ ən / mə-SKEE-gən) is a 216-mile-long (348 km) [1] river in the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan.From its source at Houghton Lake in Roscommon County, the river flows in a generally southwesterly direction to its mouth at Lake Michigan at the eponymous city of Muskegon.
The wildlife management area owes its creation to the Reedsburg Dam, which was constructed in 1940 along the Muskegon River to alleviate flooding from Houghton Lake. The resulting reservoir became known as the Dead Stream Flooding (or Dead Stream Swamp) at a fluctuating size of approximately 540 acres (2.19 km 2 ).
The three mile unpaved path parallels the Muskegon River and contains 26 different trees with identification plaques. The trail area is home to wild turkeys, grouse and bald eagles as well as beaver, mink and otter. Fishing includes salmon, steel head, rainbow trout, brown trout, walleye, bass, perch and other pan fish. [6]

Tidioute is a popular summer getaway spot. It is well a well known fishing, kayaking and hunting spot. The area has become popular in recent years due to these attractions. Tidioute is home to the Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament, which is hosted during the last full weekend of September.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.90 square miles (10.10 km 2), of which 3.74 square miles (9.69 km 2) is land and 0.16 square miles (0.41 km 2) is water. [4] including the Muskegon River, which runs through the town and is often used for canoe trips, tubing, and fishing.
