The Canadian Congress of Labour (CCL; French: Congrès canadien du travail) was a trade union federation in Canada. Affiliated with the United States–based Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO). It was founded in 1940 and merged with Trades and Labour Congress of Canada (TLC) to form the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) in 1956.
The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is a Canadian trade union.Taken in total it is the second largest union in Canada.Most of its 425,000 members work in the provincial public service sector.
In 1939, CIO supporters were expelled from the TLC and joined with the national All-Canadian Congress of Labour to form the rival Canadian Congress of Labour (CCL) in 1940.
