The statue was originally at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport but was later moved to the Minnesota State Capitol mall. A granite wall greets visitors to the memorial lists the names of the 791 Minnesota fire departments. Columns list with names of the 217 Minnesota firefighters who were fatalities in the line-of-duty since 1881.
