The port of Holyhead – which provides the main ferry connection between Great Britain and Ireland – has been closed since last weekend, with no sailings to or from Dublin.
The Stena Estrid is a passenger and vehicle 'Ro-Pax' ferry which sails for Stena Line on its Holyhead–Dublin route. Stena Adventurer is one of two ships operated by Stena Line on the Holyhead–Dublin route. The second vessel, Stena Estrid, entered service in 2019, replacing the Stena Superfast X. Her former high-speed running mate, Stena Explorer, operated the now-defunct Holyhead–Dún Laoghaire route until 2015. [6]

Between 9–22 June 2011, Stena Explorer operated two round trips a day, due to Stena Adventurer, which operated on Stena Lines' Holyhead – Dublin service receiving her annual refit in Liverpool. Stena have decided to make the Holyhead – Dún Laoghaire service a seasonal route following the sailing on 13 September 2011.
In October 2008 it was announced that the Stena Nordica would be returning to the Irish Sea replacing the Stena Seatrader and increasing capacity between Dublin and Holyhead. In March 2009 the Stena Nordica received a £2 Million refit [ 2 ] which improved passenger areas and brought the vessel into line with the rest of the Irish sea fleet.
Salt Island is part of the port of Holyhead and almost the whole extent of the island is used as a passenger, car and freight terminal and berths for ferries to and from Ireland. Both Irish Ferries and Stena Line sail from Salt Island to the Port of Dublin. The Holyhead lifeboat station is on the island.
