Oman TV (Arabic: تلفزيون سلطنة عمان) is the national television channel broadcaster in the Sultanate of Oman. The channel began broadcasting from the city of Muscat on 17 November 1974, using Intelsat, [1] and from Salalah on 25 November 1975. [2] Since 1997, Oman TV has broadcast its programs through its website.
There were six free-to-air channels headquartered in Oman at the end of 2011, four of these privately owned. Only 7% of households have access to Pay television. [1] A reform in 2004 ended the state’s monopoly on television broadcasting. The first independent TV station Majan TV launched in 2009. In 2011, Jai Hind TV was launched in Oman. [1]
