The Riddler (Edward Nigma, later Edward Nygma or Edward Nashton) is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Bill Finger and Dick Sprang , and debuted in Detective Comics #140 in October 1948.
Matt Fowler of IGN gave the episode a "great" 8.0 out of 10 and wrote in his verdict, "Gotham took a break after its Jerome arc and returned with a fun installment focusing on the official birth of Edward Nygma's Riddler persona - a tale that smartly used the underutilized Lucius as Edward's foil." Edward "Ed" Nygma (portrayed by Cory Michael Smith; season 1–5) is a forensics operative who works for the Gotham City Police Department and often presents his information in riddles. He initially starts off as an awkward but intelligent man with an unrequited crush on archivist Kristen Kringle.
Nygma shows up in Cobblepot's club, demanding to meet him. Cobblepot appears and explains that he didn't show up because his riddles are nonsense and illogical despite Nygma's arrogance. Thompkins and Nygma concoct a plan to take down Sofia, which a horrified Cobblepot discovers involves Fries encasing him in a block of ice and delivering him to Sofia.
