The Punjabi ghagra (Punjabi: ਘੱਗਰਾ) is a four-piece outfit [1] known as tewar or 'ti-or' which was traditionally worn by Punjabi women throughout the Punjab region with the outfit comprising a head scarf (), kurta or kurti, [2] ghagra (long skirt) and either a suthan (baggy trousers with a tight band around the ankles) or the Punjabi salwar (trousers). Ghagra choli (also known as lehenga choli and chaniya choli) is a type of ethnic clothing for women from India, notably in the Indian states of Rajasthan, [1] [2] Gujarat, [3] Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir.
It is traditional for women to wear ghagra choli and the scarf ensemble which was also popular in the Punjab. [1] It is still traditional for women to wear the kurta with a lehnga, [ 2 ] as an alternative to the suthan and kurta .

The style [1] of choli mostly resembles that of the choli of a conventional lehenga or ghagra choli. Sometimes conventional blouses are also matched with lehenga-style sari. The choli is mostly of a halter neck style, deep neck, or backless style. As with choli worn with the sari, these cholis are also embellished with kundan, beads, mirrors, etc.
The ghagra has its origin in the candataka, which had become a popular garment in the Gupta period. [60] The candataka was a men's half trousers [61] which eventually developed into the ghagra. The intermediate formation has been described as a shirt like dress for men and women from the neck to the thighs.
