The longtime Charlotte Observer reporter-turned-columnist started her more than half-century career in south Florida, joining the Observer on the courts beat in 1969.
The Observer eventually became the fourth-largest newspaper in the Knight Ridder chain (behind The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, Detroit Free Press and Miami Herald). In 1959, The Observer purchased The Charlotte News, Charlotte's afternoon newspaper. All operations were merged except editorial content, which was fused in 1983.
Bruce Stuart Roberts (February 4, 1930 – June 16, 2023) was an American photographer and author who began his career in the 1950s. He started out as a reporter but soon moved into photography and was part of the group of photojournalists at The Charlotte Observer who pioneered the use of the 35 mm format cameras.
On WBT, he was morning co-host with Bob Lacey [7] and the play-by-play announcer and pre-game host for the Charlotte Hornets of the World Football League. [8] He also covered the Masters Golf Tournament for ABC radio. [2] Late in 1979, Johnson moved to WSOC-TV. [7] In 1980, Johnson became the station's sports director.
