Window shutter hardware, usually made of iron, are hinges and latches that attach to the shutter and a window frame (and in some cases directly attached to stone or brick). The hinges hold the shutter to the structure and allow the shutter to open and close over the window. The latches secure the shutter in the closed (over the window) position.
The availability of power windows increased with the use of small, high-torque electric motors. [9] General Motors also followed with full electric operation in 1954. This included four-way and then six-way seats, which were introduced in 1956. Chevrolet introduced the oddity of power front windows (only) in the 1954 model.
Pressing a button on the key unlocks all of the car doors. Another button locks the car. In 1980, Ford Motor Company introduced an external keypad-type keyless entry system, wherein the driver entered a numeric combination —either pre-programmed at the factory or one programmed by the owner— to unlock the car without the key.
The bolt/nut structural latch and 4-bar capture latches remained, although the bolt diameter had increased to 0.625 inches (15.9 mm). Both the bolts and the capture latches were motorized with manual backup being available, although the individual mechanisms were still driven by way of sealed couplings that passed through the bulkhead.
A latching switch is a switch that maintains its state after being activated. [1] A push-to-make, push-to-break switch would therefore be a latching switch – each time you actuate it, whichever state the switch is left in will persist until the switch is actuated again.
The Mercedes SL hardtop features a glass section that rotates during retraction to provide a more compact "stack." The third-generation Mazda MX-5 was available with an optional power retractable hardtop in place of the standard folding-textile soft-top. Compared to the regular soft-top, the hardtop weighed 77 lb (35 kg) more.
Piston retraction compressed the probe and interface seals and actuated the 12 automatic ring latches which were located radially around the inner surface of the CSM docking ring. The latches were manually re-cocked in the docking tunnel by an astronaut after each hard docking event (lunar missions required two dockings).
