Oak Island is a privately owned island in Lunenburg County on the south shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. The tree-covered island is one of several islands in Mahone Bay, and is connected to the mainland by a causeway. The nearest community is the rural community of Western Shore which faces the island, while the nearest village is Chester.
Five Islands is a rural community in Colchester County, Nova Scotia, Canada with a population of 316 located on the north shore of Minas Basin, home of the highest tides in the world. It is named after five small islands – Moose, Diamond, Long, Egg, and Pinnacle – located just off the coast.
Administered by the Department of Natural Resources of the Government of Nova Scotia, Liscomb game sanctuary was established in 1928 as an area where hunting and trapping were prohibited. Its boundaries have been revised since then, but it now covers an area of 43,244 hectares (166.97 sq mi).

Frederick G. Nolan (July 5, 1927 – June 4, 2016) was a Canadian land surveyor as well as a known Oak Island treasure hunter. He appeared on the History Channel 's TV series about the island, The Curse of Oak Island , in episodes 7 and 8 of season 3.
The eastern moose's range spans a broad swath of northeastern North America, which includes New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador (while it is native to Labrador, it was introduced to Gander Bay, Newfoundland in 1878 and to Howley, NL in 1904), [2] Nova Scotia, Quebec, Eastern Ontario, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and northern New York.
The area is known to have deposits of gold and is the site of the first gold discovery in Nova Scotia. Mooseland is home to the Otter Ponds Demonstration Forest (www.opdf.ca), a community forest initiative on publicly owned lands that aims to demonstrate uneven aged forest management and restoration of the Acadian Forest along the Eastern Shore.
Additionally, Parks Canada transferred eighteen western moose from Elk Island National Park to Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Highlands National Park between 1947 and 1949 for population increase. Cape Breton Island's moose are descendants of these western moose. [3] [4] They were also introduced to New Zealand's Fiordland National Park. [5]
