Consett was created under the Representation of the People Act 1918 for the 1918 general election. It succeeded the abolished North West Division of Durham , comprising the whole of that seat, excluding Tanfield , which was included in the new constituency of Blaydon , and Lanchester , which was transferred to Barnard Castle .
Consett was abolished. Eastern areas (former urban district of Stanley) were added to North Durham. Western areas (former urban district of Consett) were transferred to North West Durham; areas of the abolished constituency of Houghton-le-Spring which were retained within Durham (Seaham and Murton) were transferred back to Easington;
Blaydon and Consett is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. [1] Created as a result of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election and is currently held by Liz Twist of the Labour Party, who previously represented the abolished Blaydon constituency from 2017 to 2024.
