The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) is part of the Utah Department of Natural Resources for the state of Utah in the United States. The mission of the Division of Wildlife Resources is to serve the people of Utah as trustee and guardian of the state's wildlife.
In 2009, 146 public once-in-a-lifetime Henry Mountain bison hunting permits were issued. [3] In recent years, each bison permit that has been issued by the state of Utah has had 100 applicants. [4] A population objective of 325 bison by 2012 was set by Utah wildlife biologists for the Henry Mountain herd.
In 1981, the State of Utah purchased the Fielding Garr Ranch and the rest of the island, including ownership of the herd which was once again numbering in the hundreds. Since that time, hunting has been restricted to only a few animals per year and the bison have been carefully managed and monitored for health and absence of disease.
Officials ask anyone who sees a pickup truck with a similar description to report it to the state wildlife agency.
