The college was established on 22 June 1945 under Basant Singh Asumal College of Commerce & Economics, and was inaugurated by Rao Bahadur Seth Shivrattan G. Mohatta. The college was taken under the supervision of the Government of Sindh in 1948 after the establishment of Pakistan. The current building of the college was constructed in 1967. [4]

The Quota system in Pakistan was established to give every region of the country representation in institutions according to their population. The Quota System was first introduced in Pakistan in 1948 [1] [2] [3] The Civil Service of Pakistan selects only 7.5% of the applicants by merit, education, qualification and experience.
Up to date, the HEC has published rankings for the years 2006, 2012, 2013, 2014 and most recently 2015. [2] In addition to the top ten and general rankings, independent rankings are also provided for universities and institutes in the categories of agriculture and veterinary science; arts and design; business; engineering and technology; and medicine.
