U.S. Highway 20 (US 20) in Iowa is a major east–west artery which runs across the state, separating the northern third of Iowa from the southern two-thirds. It enters Iowa from Nebraska , concurrent with Interstate 129 (I-129) and US 75 , crossing the Missouri River at Sioux City .
No. 20 was in existence for six years—from 1920 to 1926. Today, the route is related to the following highways: U.S. Highway 61 between Missouri and Dubuque; U.S. Highway 52 (formerly U.S. Highway 55) between Dubuque and Decorah; Iowa Highway 9 between Decorah and Cresco; Iowa Highway 139 between Decorah and Minnesota
Automobile repairs were performed in the garage before it housed Preston's memorabilia collection, which is now located in the former gas station as well. Antique advertising and highway signs cover the station and the garage. A three-unit motel was added next to the garage sometime before 1949. The gas station remained in operation until 1989.
From Moville through north of Early at the junction with U.S. Route 71 and Iowa Highway 471, US 20 was reconstructed from a rural two-lane highway to a four-lane road. This segment re-opened October 19, 2018 and made it so that US 20 is a continuous four-lane highway for its entire length in Iowa.
