The HP 7470 was a small low-cost desktop pen plotter introduced by Hewlett-Packard's San Diego division in 1982. [1] It was the first small-format plot that moved the paper, rather than the pens. [2] It used a revolutionary "grit wheel" design which moved the paper held in place by a wheel with embedded grit and a pinch roller.
As of 2012, Hewlett-Packard had made a total of 129 acquisitions since 1986; [3] The majority of companies acquired by HP were based in the United States. Its first acquisition was the FL Moseley Company in 1958. This move enabled HP to enter the plotter market, the precursor to its leading role in the printer business. [4]
Following HP's acquisition of Compaq in 2002, this series of notebooks was discontinued, replaced with the HP Pavilion, HP Compaq, and Compaq Presario notebooks. The OmniBook name would later be repurposed for a line of consumer-oriented notebooks in 2024, replacing the old Pavilion and Spectre series of notebooks.
