Oceana High School also had three AA State Runners Up appearances in Football. Those years were 1968, 1970 and 1971. Oceana High School had one AA State title game appearance in baseball in 1997. They finished as the runner up. Oceana High School won back to back AA State Championships in Track and Field in 1972 and 1973.
It is the only public high school in the Ohio County School District. Athletic teams compete as the Wheeling Park Patriots in the WVSSAC Class AAA, as well as the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference. The school opened for the 1976-1977 academic year following the consolidation of Wheeling, Triadelphia, Warwood and West Liberty high schools.
The Parkersburg High School A Cappella Choir has performed for two presidents: Harry S Truman in 1949 and Lyndon B Johnson in 1966. It also performed in Washington, D.C., in 1997. The choir was selected as an honor ensemble for the 2000, 2002, 2005, 2018, and 2023 West Virginia Music Education Association annual conference.
The school is within a couple miles of Salisbury University, located south of U.S. 50 and Maryland Route 350, east of Maryland Route 12, and northwest of U.S. 13. In 1997, the Career Technology Department of the Wicomico Applied Technology Center merged into Parkside High School.
