I want to know what people think are the advantages and disadvantages of both. I've seen the look of both and like them equally.

No. These stains are typically low in solids and provide less protection from UV and other weathering effects. There are new acrylic latex paints commercially available that can replicate the appearance of a semitransparent stain. Refer to the installation instructions for proper finishing. 5.

Obviously the first steps after that are doors, windows, Tyvek wrap and siding. So I'm looking at the LP Smart Siding instead of T1-11 or (James) Hardi Board. I've read all the opinions on all three products, so that part is out of the way. My question is about using Tyvek to wrap the house before installing Smart Side.

Then there is regular old plywood (which may present similar long-term failure modes). And last, maybe stucco. I’ll have to look into the T-1-11, so thanks for the tip. All is not so bad though. The OSB was only $6.50/sheet x 8 sheets ($52). The entire shed was $260 for materials. The pre-built sheds are near $3 grand.

Replacing old plywood siding that was installed directly on studs. No sheathing. Live in Midwest. Can I add Tyvec house wrap and attach it directly to studs then attach new 4x8 panels over the wrap? I want to avoid adding more thickness - so that means no sheathing behind house wrap. Or, just replace panels as they were originally installed?

Just use the roller sideways and roll horizontally, then you can backbrush with your 4 inch brush and also paint the overlapped areas. "In the heat of battle, my father wove a tapestry ...

I just finished a wall with LP Smartside lap siding . I couldn’t source good 5/4 lumber here in San Antonio, so I took 2x4 Douglas fir and cut them down to 5/4. I think the thickness adds dimension to the trim to siding transition. If you like a heavy transition, then 5/4 is for you.
