Henderson is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Baxter County, Arkansas, United States. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 309. [ 2 ] Henderson is located on the east bank of Norfork Lake along U.S. Routes 62 and 412 , 9.5 miles (15.3 km) east-northeast of Mountain Home . [ 3 ]
Henderson State University is the only university in the State of Arkansas to have been controlled by both church and state. It is also the only public university in the state to be named for an individual; [9] it was renamed for Charles Christopher Henderson, a trustee and prominent Arkadelphia businessman, [10] on May 23, 1904.
[Note 2] Arkansas Highway 5 (AR 5) is the only route running continuously across the county from south to north, providing connectivity to Missouri in the north and Little Rock to the south. Highway 14 runs east-west across much of the state, running in southern Baxter County between Marshall and Mountain View .
