Ascot Racecourse is a dual-purpose British racecourse, located in Ascot, Berkshire, England, about 25 miles west of London.Ascot is used for thoroughbred horse racing, and it hosts 13 of Britain's 36 annual Flat Group 1 horse races and three Grade 1 Jumps races.
The race is now contested on the final day of the five-day Royal Ascot meeting. Prior to 2015 the race was also open to three-year-olds. It was restricted to four-year-olds and up when a new six furlong Group One race, the Commonwealth Cup , was created at the meeting for three-year-olds only in 2015.
The Queen Anne Stakes was classed as a Group 3 race in 1971, and it was promoted to Group 2 level in 1984. It was given Group 1 status in 2003, and at this point the minimum age of participating horses was raised to four. It is now the first race on the opening day of the Royal Ascot meeting. [1]
