Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT) is the independent registered charity for Addenbrooke's Hospital and its associated hospitals. Its aim is to support and promote the work of Addenbrooke's Hospital for the benefit of patients and staff, by raising extra funds to enhance services, facilities and research.

The hospital was founded by Johanna Chandler as the National Hospital for the Paralysed and Epileptic at Queen Square in 1859. [2] The hospital was completely rebuilt in the early 1880s: the East Wing was re-opened by Princess Helena in 1881 and the West Wing was re-opened by the Prince of Wales in 1885. [2]
The centre achieved NHS Trust status in 1992, and NHS Foundation Trust status in 2009. [3] In 2014 the Walton Centre became the first hospital in the UK to virtually open its doors to Google Street view to the main clinical areas.
