The 2006 Mazdaspeed6 (known as Mazdaspeed Atenza in Japan and Mazda6 MPS in Europe, South Africa and Australia) is a high-performance version of the first generation Mazda6. This 1.6 L (1,560 cc) DOHC 16-valve turbo diesel engine has a bore and stroke of 75 mm × 88.3 mm (2.95 in × 3.48 in), and a compression ratio of 18.3:1.
The Skyactiv-G [7] is a family of direct injection petrol engines. The engine compression ratio is 14:1, except in the U.S. market where it is 13:1 so the engine can operate on regular instead of premium gasoline; the lower compression ratio reduces torque and fuel economy by 3 to 5 percent. [8]
The only available transmission is Mazda's 6-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic. Notably, Mazda's Skyactiv technologies have reduced the gasoline model's fuel consumption from an official figure of 8.9 L/100 km (26.4 mpg ‑US ) (5-speed auto) for the previous generation to 7 L/100 km (40.4 mpg ‑imp ; 33.6 mpg ‑US ), a 27% improvement.
