Murree (Punjabi, Urdu: مری) is a mountain resort city, located in the Galyat region of the Pir Panjal Range, within the Murree District of Punjab, Pakistan. It forms the outskirts of the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metropolitan area, and is about 30 km (19 mi) northeast of Islamabad. It has average altitude of 2,291 metres (7,516 ft).

Murree Tehsil is located in the northernmost part of Punjab province where it borders Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The hill resort city of Murree is the capital city of this area.

Lahore District had three tehsils, Chunian, Lahore and Qasur, all of which were Muslim majority (60.85%, 62.12%, and 57.19% Muslim respectively). While Chunian and Lahore Tehsils were entirely given to Pakistan, Qasur Tehsil was divided into two parts, which the larger part going to India. This was under the grounds of "protecting Amritsar city".

In establishing this tehsil, some areas of Kahuta tehsil were also included in it. It is 50 km away from Islamabad on the banks of Jehlum River. Most front areas of AJK are District.
