Sangamon County is a county located near the center of the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2020 census, it had a population of 196,343. [ 1 ] Its county seat and largest city is Springfield, [ 2 ] the state capital. Sangamon County is included in the Springfield, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area.
There are 64 properties and districts listed on the National Register in the county, including 5 National Historic Landmarks. Another property was once listed but has been removed.
