The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library (also known locally as the MLK Library or the King Library) is an 8-story [1] public library and university library, located in downtown San Jose, California, which had its grand opening on August 16, 2003. [2]
Built in 2003, King Library is the first joint use library in the United States shared by a major university as its only library and a large city as its main library. It has more than 1.6 million items. The building has nine floors that result in more than 475,000 square feet (44,100 m 2) of space with a capacity for 2 million volumes.
By 1932, the Library operated on a budget of $25,000 and had a total of 30 branch libraries. In December 1932, the County Library assumed responsibility for library service to all County schools except those in San Jose, Palo Alto, and Santa Clara City. During the 1950s, Santa Clara County experienced tremendous growth and urbanization.

[2] It opened in 1908 and is the last Carnegie library in Santa Clara County still operating as a public library. It is a part of the San José Public Library .
Frontier Village was a 39-acre (16 ha) amusement park in San Jose, California, that operated from 1961 to September 1980. It was located at 4885 Monterey Road, at the intersection with Branham Lane. The site is now Edenvale Garden Park, next to Hayes Mansion, and was once part of the sprawling Hayes Family Estate. [1]: 9–10.
Evergreen was the site of gliding experiments in 1911 by John J. Montgomery, an important figure in pioneering aeronautics. In his honor the local community has established John J. Montgomery Elementary School, Montgomery Park (City of San Jose). [2]
